Coach Quianna Chaney Celebrates 100 Wins on the Big Stage
The celebration of Coach Quianna Chaney's 100th win took place on a grand stage—the Semi Finals of the LHSAA Division IV state championship tournament. When asked about this significant milestone in her coaching career, she humbly reflected, “I didn’t realize the next win would be 100 until my players’ parents brought it up, and I had to calculate. Then I thought, I’m just one win away from 100. I’m definitely excited about achieving this milestone.
For Coach Q, this landmark victory is more than just a number. It symbolizes the countless hours spent honing her players' skills, fostering a strong team culture, and building a legacy that resonates within the walls of her program. As she stood amid the banners of legends like Joel Hawkins, Rebecca Marshall, and Carl Porter, Coach Chaney expressed a strong desire to add her own name to that prestigious list. "I do want one hanging next to the GREATS/legends," she remarked, highlighting her ambition to carry forward the legacy of excellence established by those who came before her.
Throughout her coaching journey, Chaney has instilled an environment in which her athletes not only excel on the court but also thrive as individuals prepared for life's challenges beyond basketball. Her coaching philosophy revolves around discipline, teamwork, and hard work—values that resonate with her players year after year.
While the 100th win represents the culmination of years of effort, Chaney views it as merely the beginning of her journey. "My players are the ones who step on the court and compete; I am just here to guide them," she said, emphasizing the role of mentorship in her coaching approach. For her, each game presents a chance to impart lessons of resilience and camaraderie alongside tactical skills.
Southern Lab administrators recognized Chaney's remarkable accomplishment, with Principal Nadia Seals exclaiming, "Coach Quianna Chaney is more than deserving of her honor in celebrating her 100th win! Her work ethic on and off the court is evident in the number of wins she has achieved. She is still early in her coaching career, and I am excited to witness her continued excellence in girls' basketball. I truly believe the best is yet to come for her!"
Director of Athletics Thomas Saulsby added, "You'll hear people say they built this brick by brick, but Coach Q actually did. She transformed a non-existent program into a basketball dynasty and is preparing to coach her fourth state championship in as many seasons." During her tenure, she's also coached three players to surpass 1,000 career points, two of whom—Shaila Forman and Asia Patin—are still competing under her guidance.
As the community comes together to celebrate this achievement, it's clear that Coach Chaney's impact extends far beyond the final score. Her unwavering commitment to her players and the rich traditions of her program suggest that many more victories are on the horizon. Under her leadership, the future seems incredibly bright, with the journey toward the next milestone already in progress.
Congratulations, Coach Quianna Chaney, on this outstanding achievement! The path to greatness continues, and fans around the community eagerly await what the next chapter holds.
